Nice. Been stuck on trying to figure out black for my flamer marines.

I painted the back part of the lens interior with black, like the instructions said, then while it was still wet, I hit it with some red to enhance the red led more. Cover lens is still clear.

I bought the 32mm version of this wonderful model on Etsy, about 16 months ago, and it has been 'filed away' in my 'box of shame', ever since! I do periodically take it out and contemplate painting and assembling it, however, I do find it a tad daunting! For the most part I only really paint 28mm historical minis, although I do quite enjoy painting up the odd fantasy mini, usually as part of a diorama to gift to friends for their Birthdays, or Christmas. Recently, though, I have starting getting into Book Nooks and Box Frame Dioramas, so I really MUST get this lil' babe out and painted, to add to one of my projects, as the centre piece; this video has definitely got my juices going! 👨‍🎨🎨🖌🤞👍

Looks incredible but I can’t see the bottom as anything but blue. Does not appear to be a highlighted black at all.

Interesting method - now while I agree black is a PITA to make interesting, I think blue might be good for fantasy subjects, whereas real subjects like German panzer crews, might need a different approach. Interestingly enough, Panzer Aces (that off-shoot of Vallejo) made smaller color ranges for crews (base and highlight color) and for panzer crews, the highlights was a very dark brown. Not only does that make sense as a highlight since it can be interpreted as dirt as well, but also in the paint range, where what you get if you mix all the base colors together you get brown, and the darkest hue of all colors is - drumroll please - black. So back to the base there. That means that by not choosing a primary color direction you get to be neutral, since we don't know from which primary color that black originates from.

More important than the goal to achieve a "black": - the mood you wanna convey: dark, sad, filthy? - the light sources - the textures A specific color is not a good goal to have in the grand scheme of things It's like going into a football (yes, FOOTBALL) game with the goal to score with a bicycle kick.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "real black" wouldn't show at all (you wouldn't be able to see it) as it would reflect no light and therefore have no highlights. Maybe a bit pedantic, but it's kinda true. :)

For something to appear black on a miniature, over 50% of the surface in question needs to remain black. Also, instead of warm grey, try sunny skin tone.

I was playing around black and doing a bad job. Mixing raw umber and phthalo blue grave this dark blue/black. I could then shade it with black ink. It wasn't amazing, but thought it was better than black. Also, I had issues with the black pigment from vallejo paints. So added some black ink, and that sorted it out. I could thin coats, but with more pigment. Gave a better finish. Black and purple/magenta is fun too. I'm no expert though.....

I find it that the best way to make a enitrely black figure more interesting is to try an OSL . This miniatures sword would make a great light source.

Nice video. I'm starting a farmyard diorama and this has helped a lot. BTW: The way to tell the difference between a mule and a donkey (besides that mules are much bigger) is a donkey has a flat back, while a mule has a back that curves downward 😀. These look like donkeys... Oh, and donkeys can be stubborn, but mules are downright ornery... 😅

Amazing mini all together I'm trying to find painting guides or even just pics to go off that are painted off dutches team. It's a nightmare. Papakles terminators are a pain to find videos or pics of them painted to copy 😢

It's amazing how you can paint light skin tone over black primer. I always end up with poor results - textured because of thick paint. I end of up stripping and just start over with white primer.

Fantastic build. I'm nearly finished with my "Robin" build. Can you give me any tips on painting the laces on the front of the tunic. Did you mask off in between the laces Or have you just got a very steady hand. Also did you use acrylic paint for the laces. Any help appreciated. Thanks again.

I don't understand the constant juxtaposition the TWD writers create of making characters who more or less say/act like "hey, we're surviving in a really trying time so we all need to be alert and be able to trust the people watching our back. We can't take any chances on security or safety, one slip-up and every single one of us could be dead to either the walkers or the living who want to take from us. Oh, and I'd like you all to meet my mentally unstable, sadistic, racist, bigoted brother who will be joining us on this survival adventure in a fully-armed state and, although he was a menace and abusive to me when we were kids, if anyone has anything to say about that - even when he actively sabotages our efforts or puts us in danger by causing strain with the group - I'm going to take it personally because he's my family."

The great thing about this video is it came out when I was stuck on an idea of what to paint a mini's cloak that I'm working on.
